Contemporary Drug Trends and Young People

This full day session explores the evolving landscape of substance use among adolescents and the contextual risks that accompany it, from cannabis to ketamine, Xanax to NOS.

This training examines current drug trends, the social and cultural drivers behind young people’s use, and how substances intersect with exploitation, violence and peer networks.

Grounded in contextual safeguarding approaches, the session equips practitioners to move beyond stigma and respond effectively to usage and harm.

    • Develop an understanding of current drug trends that affect young people, including emerging substances, access routes, and the influence of digital and peer networks.

    • Recognise the bio-psychosocial drivers of substance use, moving beyond simplistic “risk-taking” narratives to better understand usage.

    • Strengthen safeguarding responses to substance-related harm by applying a contextual lens to assessment, safety planning, and harm reduction.

  • This training is suitable for any teams working with children, such as Children's Services, Alternate Provision Staff, Youth Service, and third sector support services.

  • This training can be delivered either face to face or online.

We can also offer a half day version.
