Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Level 4

This advanced two-day course equips participants with the leadership skills, knowledge and confidence to fulfil the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) role effectively. Whether stepping into the position or developing existing expertise, learners will explore the responsibilities, systems and culture that underpin effective safeguarding leadership.

With a particular focus on Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews (CSPRs), the course goes beyond theory to support real-world application - empowering DSLs to embed learning from serious case reviews and strengthen safeguarding outcomes.

Upon successful completion of this training, each participant will be awarded a Level 4 OCN accreditation, provided by OCNCredit4Learning

    • Understand the role, responsibilities and scope of the DSL.

    • Apply key legislation, policies, procedures and audits.

    • Analyse and implement learning from CSPRs.

    • Strengthen multi-agency collaboration and accountability.

    • Critically reflect on contextual safeguarding and its relevance to leadership.

  • This training is suitable for any teams working with children, such as Children's Services, Alternate Provision Staff, Education, Youth Service, and third sector support services.

  • This training can be delivered either face to face or online.
